School Counselor at Strandskolan – the small school by Volgsjöstrand

We are now looking for a counselor for the student health team at Strandskolan, a Christian profile F–9 school, for the school year 2025–2026.

Strandskolan is located on the outskirts of Vilhelmina, just a stone's throw from Volgsjön. Here we work in smaller groups, with proximity to nature and great collaboration across grades and stages. Together with the after-school program that is also available at the school and other staff, you really have the opportunity to influence and develop your work tasks.

Responsibilities

Together with the school management, other student health staff, and school personnel, you will work preventively, health-promoting, and remedial for a good learning environment that creates the best possible conditions for students' health, learning, and development.

The work involves collaboration with students, parents, school staff, as well as organizations and authorities outside the school. The school counselor's efforts contribute to creating opportunities for change for individual students, groups, and the school's overall student health work. This means that you will work with consultation for school staff, supportive conversations with students, collaboration with guardians, and the development of the school's student health work.

At the request of the principal, you will investigate and assess barriers to learning in the student's environment, based on a psychosocial holistic view with the student in focus. Furthermore, you will work for early detection and early interventions for students at risk, students in socially vulnerable contexts, and students showing signs of mental health issues.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a degree in social work or equivalent higher education.
• Has experience and knowledge of working with individuals and groups.
• Has the ability to lead groups and classes in areas such as value-based work, conflict management, crisis conversations, motivational interviewing, and support conversations.
• Has good insight into the school's governing documents, the Social Services Act, and other relevant laws, as well as knowledge of other administrations and external support related to children and families.
• Is innovative and wants to contribute to the school's development.
• Experience working in social services or as a school counselor (meritorious).

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability as well as the ability to build trusting relationships with staff, students, and parents.
